Katharine Polk Bio

Katharine's fresh, creative eye for styling has caught the attention of some of the most important people in the fashion industry; and designers, photographers and models can't get enough of her friendly California demeanor.

Katharine may have grown up in Los Angeles with a family in the business, but television/film didnĂt quite grab her attention like fashion and accessories. From the young age of 5 (while hanging with the wardrobe ladies on set,) Katharine immediately knew that she wanted to work in the fashion industry. Her favorite designers are Stella McCartney, Helmut Lang, Chloe, Lanvin, Rick Owens, and Chanel. She can most often be found in a mix of Vintage with a leather jacket and a scarf.

After graduating from the Fashion Institute in Los Angeles, with a degree in Fashion Design, Katharine moved to New York City where she took a job in designing and styling at Badgley Mischka Couture. During her tenure there she designed for the Couture Collection, bridal, and oversaw 22 licensees ranging from handbags to swimwear to jewelry. Her designs and styling work graced the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runways for six consecutive seasons and appeared nationally in WWD,InStyle, Elle, Glamour, and Vogue.

After a few years at Badgley Mischka, Katharine decided to break out on her own and formed her own styling company called Katharine Polk Stylist. The fashion styling company specializes in editorials, music videos, and high-end celebrity clientele.

Polk's latest endeavor is Creative Director of the new luxury label Houghton. Drawing inspiration from fashion icons Katharine Hepburn, Bianca Jagger and Patti Smith, Polk designs for the independent woman who desires a look that is effortlessly chic yet sexy and strong. Her collections combine glamour and grace with an edge, exact tailoring and unexpected fabric selections resulting in a look that is uniquely Houghton.

Ms. Polk lives in NYC with her English Bulldog Jonesy.
